"It's all very well crying and howling now dear. You should have thought of that when we told you to finish tidying the house! Carpet beaters are not only for getting dust out of rugs you know - they can be used for husbands who sit around all day on their lazy, fat bottoms! Keep going Maria - I don't think he is truly sorry yet. He always cries like a baby anyway. Another twenty strokes should do the trick!".
Another illustration kindly provided by Lumasoc. I understand that carpet or rug beaters are popular instruments of discipline in Italy!
Would love to have my next door neighbor Connie apply the beater to my bare bottom. she has the arm power to do it justice. don't have the nerve to ask her.

What a lucky man to have not one, but two strong willed ladies to correct his errant ways. Go Ladies - GO! Whip his bottom!

Wonder what needs to be beaten more, a carpet or a man's bottom? Would be interesting to see what some Italian women would say! I actually have a carpet beater at home; all I need is a feisty Italian woman with a strong arm.

They are dusting off his bottom so that he has a nice shiny hiney.

My Italian aunt would tell me stories about growing up in Italy, fathers tended to use their belts but mums did favour their carpet beaters, I was always threatened with one

She's definitely going to make sure he doesn't "sit around all day"! His bottom will be too sore. I have to admmire the ladies' seriousness and belief in discipline. Carpets aren't the only thing that need beating sometimes.

A cleaners I used to use had his walls decorated with a variety of carpet beaters. He was of Italian heritage, so there be something to their dual use in Italy. As for the drawing, I beleive it captures the plight of subby hubbies quite effectively. Have you ever seen two more serious women? The little brat over the table is being well handled. His bottom must feel twice its normal size, which is no small thing. I imagine he will be kept bare for the at least the rest of the day. Oh well, so goes the new order of things.

Could not tell you, our floors are tile or wood as we are both allergic to dust mites and they are prevalent especially in carpets. One instrument aj has not a close relationship with. Excellent art and commentary.
